Hosted by the primary school Dimitar Miladinov and Municipality of Centar in Skopje, “Stronger Together” is the motto that was fostered during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that took place on September 13, 2013 in the school.

This event was attended by Major General Steven Cray, the Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard and other representatives of EUCOM, the US Ambassador, Paul D. Wohlers, USAID Mission Director, James Stein, Minister of Education and Science, Spiro Ristovski, Mayor of Centar Municipality, Andrej Zernovski, other high representatives of USAID, teachers, parents and students.

Our motto at European Command is “Stronger Together.”  I think that this is particularly fitting given the nature of humanitarian assistance.  Providing aid to our friends and allies through programs like this is one way we build and strengthen enduring partnerships. Children are the future of Macedonia.  In these classrooms, students will build the foundation for what we hope is a lifetime of learning.  The renovations here will help improve the learning environment and provide a pleasant workplace for the teachers and staff.  We recognize the importance of inter-ethnic integration in public school education for the Republic of Macedonia, so that your future leaders may grow up with common values and established friendships – friendships that will foster a cooperative and integrated society.”-said in his speaking remarks the Major General Steven Cray, the Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard.

The Minister of Education and Science, Risto Spirovski addressed the guests emphasizing that USAID Interethnic Integration in Education project merits vast respect for helping children not only to learn, recognize and respect the values and differences of a multiethnic and multicultural society, but also assisting in providing and creating good conditions for children in schools through various interventions and renovations as an incentives to schools for such commitment.

The school and students marked this day with various interesting performances in front of the guests, closing it with joint group photo.
