Working Meetings with Representatives of the Primary and Secondary Schools from Pilot Municipalities Bitola, Tetovo, Strumica and Butel

In partnership with Municipal Councilors for Education and key education institutions, four working meetings with representatives from the primary and secondary schools (directors and school management) convened fruitfully in pilot municipalities Strumica, Tetovo, Bitola and Butel between 17th and 24th of August 2012.

These meetings aimed at enabling school management to get more acquainted with the concept of interethnic integration in education, and at the same time learn about the role of the key institutions in implementation of the project activities in schools.

Organized by USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project team, together with Municipalities, Bureau for Development of Education and State Education Inspectorate, during the meetings highlighted was the importance of applied interethnic integration in education. In order to increase interaction and bring closer students from different ethnic groups, will be offered to them knowledge on how to participate in developing and building the society, in the spirit of multiculturalism and diversity.

Municipal councilors for education actively will be engaged in coordination of activities among schools at municipal level, supporting and guiding the project activities in schools.

Representatives from the Bureau for Development of Education, openly stated during their presentation, that schools will receive full support in order to amplify know-how, develop skills of the teachers to apply approaches and organize activities that advance interethnic integration in education; offer to students knowledge through various techniques and activities which contribute towards better interethnic interaction and understanding; then enhance cooperation among schools and parents, school boards and local communities through many multiethnic activities with students; inter-municipal cooperation to utilize the good practices of schools; and include activities for interethnic integration in annual programs of the schools.

State Education Inspectorate representatives underlined that integral evaluation is also a tool that will scrutinize and evaluate the implementation of the activities for interethnic integration in education, followed with recommendations on improvements, if needed.  Moreover, through annual reports which portray the quality of the education process in primary and secondary schools, will be reported about the progress of interethnic integration in education at national level.

USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project Team will continue to include in forthcoming activities municipalities and key education institutions, to assure sustainability of the results and systemic embedding of the interethnic integration and collaboration in schools.
