Secondary schools students from Krusevo celebrate the renovation of their school together with the partners from Tetovo

On the 10th of October, 2014, the Secondary Municipal School “Naum Naumovski Borce” from Krusevo celebrated the completion of the process of installation of aluminium windows in the school building, as a result of which the students in this school will be able to follow the teaching process in improved conditions and in energy efficient environment.

DSC05139At the solemn ceremony, Major Jeffrey Van Sickle, Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the US Embassy, the Mayor of Municipality of Krusevo, Mr. Gjorgji Damceski and the Director of the school, Ms. Fanica Nikoloska, addressed the audience which was comprised of students, teachers and parents by sending the unanimous message – “Together we are stronger”.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the attendees watched the interesting performance consisted of two integrated music acts and a flash mob dance which was also joined by the students from the partner Secondary Municipal School “Mosa Pijade” from Tetovo.  Furthermore, the students from both schools presented their joint activities which they had been implementing in this past period.  Among other things, they worked together on designing an informational web-site for Krusevo and Tetovo, wherein the entire communication as regards to agreeing on the activities, assigning tasks and sharing ideas was conducted via internet.

DSC05030Although this event was their first direct joint meeting, the students from both partner secondary schools “Naum Naumovski Borce” and “Mosa Pijade”, didn’t waste any time before starting to prepare a joint feast in the school kitchen, but with switched roles: the host students cooked Tetovo specialties, whereas the students from Tetovo rolled up their sleeves and prepared delicious Krusevo specialties.  A brochure with food recipes in three languages – Vlach, Macedonian and Albanian was presented at the joint table. Once the activities were presented in front of the audience, an enjoyable tasting of the delicious specialties followed.

DSC05211The renovations which are implemented within the framework of the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project and with the funds from the United States European Command are aimed at improving the learning environment of the students in Macedonia, but above all they represent an incentive for intensifying the interethnic cooperation and friendships. Both secondary schools from Tetovo and Krusevo promised that they will continue to work towards an integrated future, not only in their schools but also in the community in which they live.
