Basketball tournament in the SS “Zdravko Cvetkovski” aimed at strengthening the sport spirit, the tolerance and the coexistence

IMG_4414newFrom the 5th until the 12th of December, a basketball tournament was held in the sports hall of the SS “Zdravko Cvetkovski” from Skopje. The students from this school, divided into four mixed teams, were part of a five-day long intensive companionship, cooperation, respect and fair play.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the organizers formed four teams, one for each year of instruction, and each of the teams consisted of eight male and female basketball players. The teams were mixed, not only in terms of language of instruction but also in terms of gender. The competition was designed in a manner that each of the teams would have an opportunity to play with all other teams, and the best ranked two teams played at the finals at the end of the tournament. The students from the second year showed that the age is not decisive when it comes to sport, and with their dedication, fair play and team spirit they outwitted the other teams and won the tournament.

The fun and sports did not end with the finals. At an invitation of the school community, the teachers who teach in different languages of instruction accepted the challenge to play an exhibition game with the winning team. The key result was even greater togetherness and closeness between the young people and the adults, the students and the teachers, the Macedonians, the Albanians and the Turks, who breathed in the spirit of cohesion throughout the tournament. Winners of the tournament were not only the second-year students but the school as a whole, because they jointly demonstrated that together we can achieve everything.
