Young people’s creativity – the easiest way to interethnic integration in education

foto4Which is the easiest way to bring youngsters from different ethnic communities closer? It’s simple! Gather them in one place and give them the possibility to do the things they are mostly interested in. Friendship, unity and integration will inevitably follow. In the course of the Project one of our partner organizations, the Centre for performing arts Multimedia, organized numerous creative workshops and forum theatres. The outcomes are more than excellent: apart from being together and the friendships that are going to continue to exist even when the activities are over, a lot of young talented people got the chance to present and develop their potential. They also developed great artistic products- films were being shot, plays were being performed, exhibitions and performances were being organized.

Last year activities perked up the creative potential of secondary school students and gave them enough space to be producers, actors, artists, photographers and to have creative freedom in order to create their own work of art. With the help and unconditional support from their teachers and experts who led the creative processes, students were creating theatrical performances, short films, exhibitions and performances. The students from “Boro Petrushevski” vocational secondary school from Skopje organized a theatre performance entitled “Nashe Maalo” (Our neighbourhood) inspired by their experiences and the experiences of their families ;the students included several stories for mutual love of Macedonian and Albanian towards football, for repetition of a family history of mother and daughter who both fall in love in a man from different ethnic background, of an excellent and weak student whose friendship is unimaginable according to all rules, but still they find one thing they are both interested in which marks the beginning of a new friendship. This theatre performance was very well accepted by the audience, while students could not hide their satisfaction for the possibility to make DSC00265such positive and good presentation. Furthermore, the students from “Arseni Jovkov” secondary school shot five short films in which the main topic was diversity, but viewed from several aspects for which students wrote the scenarios, directed and acted in the films.

This year we continue with the creative workshops and the forum theatres for secondary school students from different ethnic communities. After having included eight high schools from Skopje, Tetovo, Kichevo, Veles, Shtip, Kumanovo and Bitola in the last year, this year we have creative movements of secondary school students via creative extracurricular activities that will take place in Skopje, Gostivar, Kavadarci, Ohrid, Kochani and Prilep.
