Training for Trainers Connecting Contemporary Arts Practice with Education and Social Development

Three-day Training for Trainers gathered 16 creative teachers from secondary schools of the municipalities of Kumanovo, Kicevo, Stip, Tetovo, Veles, Bitola, Gazi Baba and Karpos in Skopje, from 19 to 21 March 2013.

The training aimed at developing the skills and the expertise of the school teams that will further disseminate the know-how to students in schools in the targeted municipalities.

Experts and artists applied a methodology and approach that is a crossover between individual and group work–an experiential process of learning, integrating tools and self-exploration on the theme of personal needs and interest.

The training set a learning-oriented process that connects contemporary arts practice with everyday life, education and social development. Its pedagogic philosophy included the ways in which the teachers and the teams could do a promotion of active and participatory involvement of the students, artists, facilitators and audience in the community; artistic skills through the  art for social change methodology -a combination of Augusto Boal’s Forum theatre techniques and video techniques with current tendencies in art and technology, so the teachers and the team as facilitators can get a clear picture of where and how the group imagines its future; and develop a creative approach to success, community development and positive change.

People know me as an introvert person, rarely exposed. This training and the group eased me to reveal my skills and creativeness that I was not aware of before. I am so thankful to all of you for enabling me to be part of this process and group”-said the teacher from Veles, Grozdan Vckov.

Teachers in 8 secondary schools in the targeted municipalities, from April to June 2013 will perform and implement in-school 12 creative workshops with their group of students.
