Students are researching: Respect for diversity brings higher successes for the businesses

DSC_0916Respect for diversity, both in the structure of employees and in the relationship with clients, brings higher successes for the businesses. This is the main conclusion of the case studies prepared by the research teams from three secondary schools from Skopje, comprised of students from different ethnic backgrounds. The results of the research were presented at a joint event organised by the USAID Interethnic Integration in Education Project and the partner organisation “My Career”, which was held on the 26th of September this year in the sports hall of SGGU “Zdravko Cvetkovski” in Skopje.

At the joint presentation, students from SUGS “Josip Broz Tito”, SUGS “Cvetan Dimov” and the host school presented their findings and the methodology of conducting the research. Under the mentorship of the representatives from “My Career” and the teachers from their schools, they worked for several months in the preparation of the case studies and the video story about a national company with mixed ethnic composition. While researching the diversity of the companies, in addition to the collected information from the Internet and other sources, the students also conducted field research in the selected company which involved interviews with the employees with questions related to the multiethnic structure of the company. The students selected “Unika – Insurance”, “New Star” Hotel and “Porsche Macedonia” as a subject of their research since they are companies with multiethnic structure of the employees which, among other things, build their success by means of respect and integration of the diversities in their work.

DSC_0955At the event, in addition to the findings and the methodology utilized for researching diversity in these companies, the students also talked about their welcome, the challenges and their impressions, as well as the lessons learned. The large audience consisted of students and teachers from these schools, representatives of My Career, IIEP and the Ministry of Education and Science, attentively followed the responses of the students related to their case studies.  At the end of the event, each student was presented a certificate and a small gift as a token of appreciation for their participation in this activity. The audience left the event with new and useful information on the successful multiethnic companies in the country and possibilities for internship and employment of the young people.
