Trainings for Strengthening the Parental Involvement in Activities for Interethnic Integration in Education

Directors, parent representatives, presidents of School Boards, as well as professional service staff from the schools, were part of the training aimed at strengthening the parental involvement in activities for advancing interethnic integration in education (IIE) and the broader community. The training was held on 1 and 2 July in Skopje.

The training is part of the cycle of trainings for professional service staff and School Boards, implemented in the period between 24 June and 2 July 2014, as part of USAID’s Interethnic Integration in Education Project. 370 participants from all 180 primary and secondary schools in the country took part in the trainings.

The goal of these trainings is to improve the cooperation between professional service staff in the schools (pedagogues, sociologists, psychologists, special educators, etc.) and the parent councils, hence, to strengthen the role and the involvement of parents in activities that aim to improve the interethnic integration in their schools and their community.

During the trainings, participants were actively involved in the planned discussions and workshops, sharing their thoughts and ideas for greater parental involvement in the school activities for interethnic integration. Most of them claimed that schools need to motivate the parents for greater engagement in the activities by involving them from the initial planning phase up to the promotion of the achieved results.

The participants in the training showed extraordinary interest for the “Barometer” exercise, through which they shared their visions for the improvement of schools in the sphere of interethnic integration.

Furthermore, in the course of the trainings, the competences of School Boards were elaborated in the global planning of the activities for interethnic integration in the Annual Programme for Work of the Schools, as well as in the excursions regulated by the Rulebook.
